10th International Sand Sculpture Festival - FIESA 2012 again. Luiz Vaz de Camões is considered Portugal's and the Portuguese language's greatest poet and one of the greatest poets of the western world. His epic work "Os Lusíadas" written in the 16th century is studied in every Portuguese school and is widely translated. It narrates the story of the Portuguese voyages of discovery during the 15th and 16th centuries, relating episodes of the voyage from Europe to India, and the sailor's bravery deeds. Camões was familiar with the royal court of John III of Portugal, having the reputation of a bohemian and a flirter but also of a great lyrical poet. As a soldier he lost an eye in a battle in Africa, was arrested in Portugal for fighting with someone and later sailed to Asia. During the years he lived in India and China he wrote an important part of his literary work. His sculpture stands in front of a 15th century Portuguese caravel where stays a priest and a sailor. Camões write in a piece of papyrus that metamorphoses into a wave.
