This abandoned shed used to house lumber before Home Depot and Lowes came to town. I get a nostalgic feel whenever I see how the big box stores are starting to change my little town, and with the sun creating these dynamic shadows on this skeleton of a building, painted on the canvass of the receding autumn colors, I decided once and for all to shoot it and hopefully put myself out of this vague feeling of lingering ennui.

Yeah, days gone by... Reno has been taken over by the monoliths too. It's really outgrown it's moniker of the "Biggest little City". I'm really glad you have the courage to post everyday mundane objects. I really like the lines and colors here - nicely done.

Great Photo, Great Narrative. You did an outstanding job with both on this PJ. Your talents seem to know no bounds. The reference to building as skeleton was awesome. Lighting and coloring fit the mood. You even sneaked a little fall colors in the background. Just a marvelous post. I was a little bored today so I looked up meaning of ennui. You even taught me a new word with this post and how to pronounce. Have a good weekend.

What a clever title! God, I understand your feelings PJ. Whether I'm in Trois-Rivières, Montréal, South Shore, with those big stores all the places look the same. Such a pity, loosing the unique cachet of places we love...As for the image, I just love those shadows, the clarity and colours; the perspective that shows the surrounding area. Beautiful work. :)

I used to have to pick up lumber from a place similar to this when I was runner for a construction company when I was young. It's a very reminescent image for me. I wonder if 'my" little lumber company is still there since that town has grown so much.
Thanks for sharing such a nostalgic shadow of the past.

Love the shadows, the angle of this shot and the criss-crossing lines... it's kind of moody, and I feel that touch of nostalgia too... reminds me of Saturday trips to the town lumber yard when I was little... my father did a lot of carpentry and I remember the odor of fresh-cut wood, and all the places a child could 'hide' in a place like that...

WOW PJ, We must have some kind of telepathy or something. My future (real soon) ABstracts are going to be with shadows and textures. I would have had a field day there and would stare for hours thinking of what it was like in it's prime. This is a wonderful shot of this old building so rustic looking. and it's giving me some great ideas.

Someone above said that they liked the smell of fresh cut wood. I too have a liking for those smells, especially of cedar and pine wood. It was a beautiful fall day when you took this and the angle is perfect and the clarity so fine.

This is a great post PJ! I love the tones in the wood framing of this old lumber shack. I miss the way things used to be too. The land where my childhood home used to be is inundated with "affordably priced" lol homes starting at around $650,000 and the malls and strip malls are everywhere. I absolutely hate it.
