Enveloped by the smoke after ignition, the Delta II rocket carrying NASA's Dawn spacecraft rises from the fire on the launch pad at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station to begin its 1.7-billion-mile journey through the inner solar system to study the asteroid Vesta and dwarf planet Ceres. Vesta and Ceres lie in the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. It is also NASA's first scientific mission powered by electric ion propulsion engines. Very Star Wars ;-)

The dark billowing clouds of smoke accentuate the lighter, brighter clouds and make for quite a dramatic image. Excellent detail as well. I can even read the writing....now that is impressive. Another great clean-up job ( and I know it entails more than that Phil) and to my favorites it goes ;-=)

I love this shot. Living in Orlando, I get to the coast whenever I can to see launches. The rising smoke plume seems to caress the rocket as it rises towards the heavens.

THE CAMERA'S ONLY JOB is to get out of the way of making photographs. It's entirely an artist's eye, patience, and skill that makes an image. ~Ken Rockwell VISIT MY GALLERY
