those old guys usually knew what they were doing when naming things but: why did they call a big grey bird a blue heron. why did they call a medium sized very blue bird a geen heron. anybody got any ideas? here's a green heron in defense mode. the bird flew to within 10 yards of me and made this pose. i got about 10 shots of him and he turned and flew away. i got to say again, God continues to bless me with great visuals

it's called a green heron because the dark grey feathers on it's back will shine green in the sunlight. From this angle, he kind of blends in with the background doesn't he?

There's something touching about this guy Mike. Maybe it's his sweet pose. If this is his defense pose..he needs to work on it-lol! Good details - I like his long body and skinny legs :) Fine image of him in his habitat. Thanks for sharing this sharp eyed cutie :*))
