Well, congratulations with your new lens! This is a beautifull bird. Nice try, this capture would be better if it was a little sharper. Did you use a tripod? It's very difficult to hold your camera still with a zoom-lens. :)

New lens? do tell. What did you get? the composition in this one is very nice, Mike. It seems a little bright though and it's not quite clear - like it's got a haze to it. the focus seems to be there. Could this be over cropping, perhaps?
