In my experiences with bees, they're rarely aggressive. If they approach, it's usually out of curiosity, not malice. That behavior can change when they're swarming or if you're near a hive, but in general, they're harmless.
That empathy goes out the window when dealing with wasps and hornets though. I find them fascinating, but very intimidating. I'll get a burst of courage on some occasions, but generally steer away from things that like to sting.
