NEVER AGAIN - Dachau concentration camp - The crematorium ovens -------------- In March 1933 the Nazi government established its first official concentration camp (KZ-Lager) at Dachau, a town just northwest of Munich. The camp was established for political prisoners, and during its early operations, many prisoners served a specific time and were then released (in contrast to later concentration camps, from which few were released by the Nazis). Dachau was not an extermination or death camp such as Auschwitz, and the number of Jews interned in Dachau was actually rather small, compared to the numbers of political prisoners, prisoners of war, and detainees from all over Europe who were sent to Dachau. It is estimated that some 35,000-43,000 prisoners died at Dachau and its numerous subcamps (the number for the main Dachau camp itself was some 31,000). Dachau was liberated by the U.S. Army (elements of the 45th and 42nd Infantry Divisions) on 29 April 1945.

A sobering reminder of the efficiency of the Third Reich. Unfortunately, the killing still goes on at different times and places around the world.

You are right, it is morbid even to see them. I hope it's really in the past.

I know this is reality, but the sight and the thought is truly depressing. The ideas of what went on there and elsewhere during the war are already quite vivid in my mind. Tom is right that this kind of crap goes on all over the globe even now. Men have learned nothing from their brutality, at least some men. May God deliver those who suffer at the hands of others. Your shot is too clear, Antonio.

What a haunting reminder Doc. If one person died in one of those ovens, that was one too many.
Thanks for sharing.

I want to cry every time I think of those who were tortured and died there! How awful!!! I won't say anything about your shot cause I'm not fond of the memories.
