Carnival in New Orleans - an event we look forward to all year long here in this city of woes. Katrina may have knocked us down, but we will never let it erase the soul of this city. Here, Krewe of Zulu riders parade in their traditional black-face makeup (black and white riders do this - originally to lampoon the exclusive all-white more traditional krewes), and help us all to take a break from the drudgery and difficulty of rebuilding our shattered streets and blighted neighborhoods.

Hello Regmar,

Good to see you posting again - it's been a long while! So glad the Carnival is still going ahead.

Great capture of the folks on this float - strong colouring, good contrast and above all - optimism. Nice work, R!

Kind regards,
Anne-Marie

I presume that the smile and the frown are there to reflect the drama sign printed on the umbrella, and it is effectively done and has a potent impact, especially now that the city is in such an awful mess. I think that Katrina affected the whole of our nation and we all feel the losses. Thanks for posting this message of hope.
