A story to pass the evening with. My seven year old nephew Mark, who you have met here, was just entering Kindergarten a few years ago. In his classroom was a chair called the "I can't chair". None of these little 4 and 5 year olds were allowed to say "I can't", only I can or I'll try. If they did they had to sit in the "I can't" chair for 2 minutes. Within a few weeks all these youngsters had eliminated the words "I can't" from their vocabulary. To this day it is a very rare thing for Mark to say I Can't and he will be a better man than I can dream of being for that. He loves to sit at the computer with me and look through the new images; he is fascinated when I begin editing my pictures to post. He has inherited one of my old point and click digitals, a 3.3 megapixel Vivitar. he loves taking pictures. One night in the car, after dark, he was snapping pics out the window. He caught a neon sign as we went past at about 40 MPH. He downloaded it himself and played with it in DI himself and was very proud of what he came up with. He asked to to upload it to my page. I gently explained to him "This is a big people site, Mark, I really can't". He banished me to my "I can't" chair. Then he uploaded it himself. Think of what a better place this world would be if we all had an "I can't" chair. Gentle comments and critiques please.

Just a great narrative and photo to match Rich. I think you discovered the I can't chair at the right point in your life. Kids make great teachers. I like how Mark reworked his photo. For some reason it reminds me of a Christmas Song with the musical notes. To believe in Christmas is a special gift as well. Seven year olds have that ability. Great post and think I'll get out of the I can't chair. Have a good week.

We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"

What a great picture! The blue wavy lines really frame the inside lights well. Very nice job.

The story and the photo are very good!
Cheers Mark, good work!
I also experiment with motion and light.
I think it would be even better without the editing.

Great picture and great narrative. I have never heard of anyone using that teaching technique before. The abstract he did is very well put together, also. Tell Mark he has a future in the digital art world.

Mark should have his own avie and name! There is an artist in him that is trying to get out and represent itself here at Caedes. Very good first post, Mark, and I will be looking forward to seeing more of your work as time goes on.

Rich, I would say your nephew is very artistic ... I like how Mark presented this with the curvy lines. The bright colors do look like lights dancing to music ... very sweet. Way to go Mark on a this fantastic art piece ... I can already tell you a have a bright future as an artist / photographer. Will be looking foreward to more of your work. :-)

This reminds me of those glow in the dark stickers that you can put on your walls or ceilings. It looks like a border here. Very nicely done, Mark.

In todays world you can come into a web site as this and find a unique image as well as a artisit who loves images and children and you really show your love for your nephew Mark and not just the image makes this picture but your words and thoughts added to it as well.
Take care and god bless you

I tell ya Rich...this was really unique..the little 'story' you told and then the moral of the story, plus the photo your boy took. It's totally one of those precious moments, and I for one am so very glad you shared it with us, it really shows your inner feelings, your joy and your pride..plus a lot of humility. I like this so very much my friend..Verena
