Something a bit different for me here. I was at my favorite stomping grounds, Greenfield Park, with Mark and became intrigues by the symettry of the still swings. After taking several shots Mark ran through and pushed them all to get them swinging. I kept snapping shots and merged 3 of them together. I left the end result fuzzy and out of focus to try and get the ghostly effect - fuzzy and out of focus. In an unrelated note, by dear friend Tick got me thinking with one of his posts. Imagine that. He referred to the True Grit that it is going to take to make sure our future generations don't pay for our sins. I agree, and would go one step further. It seems to me that we have lost our passion in many ways in our Country. The average college graduate this year will have 9 different jobs before they retire. How does one get passionate about a job ? We are so busy running from spot to spot, appointment to appointment, soccer game to soccer game that we find it difficualt to find any one thing we are passionate about. The politicians control Washington, the Lobbyists control the Politicians and Wall Street controls the lobbyists. How to do we become passionate about our Nations leaders? I think virtually all of us are passionate about our art, be it photography, fractals, manips, etc. If you are, you are one step ahead of the game. Now find a way to pass that passion on the generations behind us. If not about art, about SOMETHING. This is deeply personal for me because I had lost much of the passion in my personal life. Recently someone has shown me much of what I was missing...not in a physical passion, but intellectually and emotionally. She knows who she is, no need to name her...but my debt to her is staggering. Keep the fires burning and pass the passion to others.

Great narrative GBRx3. If the park had a merry-go-round, it would have fit perfect with you words of truth. I agree about passing the passion. Maybe we should start a campaign to that effect. As for the photo, it is still a little blurry for my tastes but it fits the sense of uncertainty you brought forth in your words. Therefore, it works on some levels.

Terrific idea for a manip Rich, I like it alot. And I agree with Tick, a ghostly merry-go-round would really top it off. As for your narrative, I agree, passing your passion on is a great idea, not to mention noble. I think it's something we all can think about & maybe do. Terrific manip & a definite fave !

It looks like a dream of childhood past... a dream of a sunny mercurial summer in the middle of a seemingly unending winter...

Years ago, deep in a long cold January, a new president ignited the passion of my generation with his electrifying words, "Let the torch be passed..." Your call to "keep the fires burning and to pass on the passion to others" comes from the same place in the heart.

Well done, my friend.

Interesting and quite nicely done. I like the effect, the result of your labor and the dark green with the black and white. Very artistic to be sure. One should become passionate with the idea of why we are here in the first place.

How lucky you've been to find someone to ignite the fires of artistic passion, my friend. You are to be congratulated for accepting that help and for your helper to be so generous with her time. It's an important part of our existence...helping our friends along the path we call life.

I like this inspirational piece. I first saw it in the voting booth and knew instantly what the artist was trying to convey. So please take that as a compliment. Your meaning is clear in this picture and needs no explanation.

Happy New Year, if I've forgotten to convey that wish to you!

We don’t make art to show someone what something looks like. All this requires is eyes (or a lens). Art is supposed to have meaning, emotion, power, or magic. Alan & Mario "FourThirds"

I can't say I really really like the photo but I think the narrative is really important to the photo. I want to like this photo more but it doesn't quite get there for me. It feels more like a photo that is layered instead of ghostly. Sorry...but I thought you would appreciate honesty.

Thought provoking image. I too first saw it in the VB. I am glad I followed to read your narrative. A wonderful sentiment and reminder.

Question. Did you have your camera set on a tripod?

Concept?

I like it. :o)

Execution?

D-.

'Getting there from here'? I know that you will and by all means, do not stop with the creative experimentations.

Suggestions?

More so, for your consideration for applicability with settings/scenes and creativity in mind:

Bulb setting on 40D

As I came across some imparted information on our site here, referencing using the bulb setting when shooting fireworks. No release cable or remote used ... simply, cover your lens with a hat, let's say ... remove ... to expose, etc.. You'll figure it out. :o)

Keep flexing those creative muscles, Rich. I do like where you were going this one. Sincerely.

Well, I think I see where you were going with this. Had just the swings been blurred, or moving, or double exposed, this would've worked for me. As presented, not so much. It is a bit dizzying and disorienting. Especially so, when objects off in the distance (trees and high tension wires) are very distinctly doubled up.

Instead of Les' counsel to use the bulb setting.. this is daylight, so you might be better off with a tripod, and shooting several exposures from the exact spot, and blending them in post. A hat, in daylight, will result in some perceivable blur, and will unevenly darken the shot as a result. Night shots, however, would be ideal for the "hat trick".

I'd really like to see a second attempt at this.

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
