With minutes of the time this one was taken, two young men came around the corner just out of the picture to the right. The woman from the last picture homed in on them like a heat seeking missile and made a beeline to them. She pulled some bills out of her pocket, handed them to the men and they returned a small plastic bag. Then they turned around and walked away. A crack deal had just gone down, the woman had scored her first hit of the day (or perhaps her last hit of a long night). The entire episode had taken less than 30 seconds, occured in the open, on 27th Street which is a major North-South corridor of Milwaukee. The brazeness of the law breakers is stunning...they know they rule the neighborhood and the Police are stretched so thin the risk of getting caught in miminimal.

It's absolutely incredible that you caught that Rich & caught it on camera ! It's like this is every big city across America, sad to say & there's no easy answers to it either.

Two great images that tie in with one another. Like Lauren said this is a common daily occurance across the US ... not just big cities ... small towns have their share of serious problems too. It is a sad situation indeed & your timing was perfect to catch this. Nicely done Rich.

God has created fantastic beauty for us to photograph and fantastic photographers to bring out that beauty in unique ways.

I think you are lucky to have no broken bones, standing there with your camera!

Please be careful, Rich, where ever you go in this part of the city. Your camera has to be worth a nice pawn trade and your wallet would come in handy too. These deals have to be financed in some way. Seedy side of life, but much of it the result of despair and hopelessness.

I feel like I am watching Serpico in action. A bust scene that wasn't busted. Wow. Powerful stuff GBRx3.
