The crack dealers and the Prostitute shown here were barely out of range of my lens when this woman and her precious young daughter came out of the store. In a different part of this series Sharon made a reference to people leading "lives of quiet desperation". I know she meant it in a slightly different context, but I think that quote is absolutely terrific and sums up so much of what this entire series is about. To think that this woman and her child would have strolled into the middle of a crack deal had they walked out out the door one minute earlier is almost out of the realm of my imagination. I think, as I've said before, that the vast, vast population of the Central City are good, law abiding people...but almost all of them are leading "lives of quiet desperation" because of the much smaller percentage of those that use fear, guns and violence to dominate entire neighborhoods.

A great capture that tells a story & I think "lives of quiet desperation" fits perfectly. I think people that live in neighborhoods such as this one or actually any neighborhood (city or rural) get use to daily common occurances that pass them by ... they either choose to ignore the sitiuation or completely block it out. I have to admit I'd do the same thing. It's sad all around & I'm sure the economy isn't helping the sitiuation either. Another good post for your series Rich.

I think we all run in our own little circular comfort zone GBRx3. It it doesn't affect us, we let it slide. Sad, but true. I believe we all try to be helpful and aware but a mind can stand only so much outside pressure. We have all been hit head on with Apathy. This series is making me more aware of that. Another good photo of a bad situation.

It must be quiet hard to raise a child in a war zone. I feel for the little girl. Maybe with moms love and careful guidance she can continue to avoid crack deals.

I definitely relate to this one. And the quote of "quiet desperation" really rings true. A few days ago I went through a surreal road block. Surreal in the sense it was on a rural country road near my in-laws residence. I was flabbergasted both by the unexpected location and the timing as my father in law just passed away. As well as never seeing law enforcement there ever. I was dumb struck when told they were looking for someone and crack was a major problem there.

I hope she holds tight to the little girl's hand and protects her from all the evils that surround them day and night...
