A quarter inch hoverfly at about 5X. Taken with a new macro rig - Canon 60D body, MP-E 65 macro lens & MR-14EX ring flash. The semi-circular reflections on the back and in the eye facets are from the ring flash, but I don't know how I'm going to fix that. Any suggestions would be appreciated. The forecast for the weekend has been rain, but I got in a few hours shooting at the local arboretum before it got too wet. The lens is very difficult to use, but I've been shooting at 1X for several years now and expected the very shallow DOF at higher magnification. But when everything works right, the lens is a marvel. Truly a walking-around-with microscope for photographers who want a challenge.

A very wild yet excellent close up. The lens seems perfect for experimenting. The details are amazing in the larger size.

Don't see the problems you mention only a fabulous, scientific examination that's also beautiful. Even the antenna have sensory hairs. Love the lens, it's an alien world down there
