I didn't even need to leave the backyard for this one. Shot at about 2.5X, its body was 1 cm from end to end and rather ornate.

Thank you both for the nice comments. Marzena, I believe there are Orb Weavers of many types all over the world. They're not known to be aggressive or particularly venomous either, so other than the annoyance of walking into one of their webs, they're innocuous and nearly invisible, especially in the daytime when they're hiding.

On the other hand, Black Widow spiders are common here and you have to be careful around them. But they aren't aggressive either and always try to run away, but if the worst happens and you get bit, it's rarely fatal. Sometimes very, very painful, but rarely fatal. If you want to investigate some really bad spiders, I'd suggest starting with the Brazilian Wandering Spider and the Sydney Funnel-web Spider. Those are seriously bad spiders. And neither one of them is American.

Wow!! That is a very impressive shot. The details are amazing!! I don't kill spiders at my house, because they get rid of all the pesky insects!! Outstanding job Russ:)
