A small desert butterfly about the size of a US quarter. These insects are one of the harder subjects to sneak up on. Taken with a 100mm macro lens & a ring flash.

Another photographer friend identified this individual as a Marine Blue Butterfly. It's a very common species in the southwest US, but can wander quite far. They're very skittish and challenging to shoot.
