A small crab spider in attack position on the petal of a maroon blossom. The front 'arms' span about a quarter of an inch or a little over half a centimeter at their widest point. All crab spiders I've found have excellent vision and are difficult to approach closely. This was shot with a 100mm macro lens and a ring flash. Taken at the beautiful Roth Estates in Nevada City, California. My thanks to Jan and Steven Roth for their charm and hospitality.

Oh all right...
I did view it full size...
And survived that game. LOL
[has my eyes half closed though]
Strange what difference can colour make... If it was black, I would not decide to view it in full size for sure.

Super cool Russ! Spot on focus and dof. I see these spiders often with a touch of green color to them but Ive never gotten that close, lol. I agree, it is amazing how small but alert the insects are.

Thank you for the nice comments everyone. I really appreciate them all.

There seems to be a different size, color and shape of crab spider for every occasion. The best ones at camouflage you'll never see, they blend so well and are very quick to hide if approached. Along with jumping spiders, mantids, dragonflies & robber flies they're a prize photo subject just because they're so difficult to shoot. For me, a picture's value is in direct proportion to how hard it was to get.
