I'm sure it must have been very nice on that island but this photo is quite aweful. It is way overexposed in the sky and ocean areas and the rest has very poor contrast. Composition is good though...

Welcome to Caedes silyman30 :)
This is indeed a very calm and lovely scene, and looks a wonderful place to be. With a little adjustment of the contrast in a photo editing program it could have much more impact. I like the way you have centred the mountain in the background, and the inclusion of so many people enjoying themselves is nice. I am wondering where you took the shot from - were you on a boat ?
I hope you have some more shots of this beautiful shoreline.

Sorry about my first comment. It was very insensitive and not really what caedes.net is all about.

I too was wondering where this was taken from. If it was taken from a boat or some other such unstable platform, then you really did a good job as the image seems sharp enough. Overall the photo could actually have been very good, it's just that it's so overexposed it's completely ruined by that. I don't know, maybe the camera automatics got it wrong because of the strong light or something. I think you would get a much better result if you set the mode to manual and set the exposure time to about a quarter of what it actually was or even less. If the shore turned out too dark, you could easily correct that in an image editing program as LynEve said, but I'm affraid there's not much that can be done about the blown out sky.

Anyway, I see this was taken in october, so I suppose you can't really go back (unless you live there) to retake the shot, but I hope you had made more and will upload them soon.

Well I think it's a beautiful picture! I was 17 last time I saw Diamondhead in person! White skies are tough for most people to capture but I don't think this one's horribly over exposed. I have many like this myself with overexposed skies from shooting in auto. He's right about the camera settings but it's also pretty easy to change out the sky in Photoshop or maybe even simply adjust the lighting. The composition is excellent though, the girl in red at the edge of the water gives it character too :) Very nice...
