This picture is of a Leo Mol Bronze, taken at the Leo Mol Sculpture Garden in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 21, 2008. It was taken in the early evening (around 7:30 IIRC) after a heavy-but-brief Canadian Prairie thunderstorm. You can make out the VERY dark sky in the background. It's called "De Zaaier" ("The Sower" in Dutch) and was sculpted by Mol in 1993 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the arrival of the Dutch in Manitoba. It's a very large statue - over 7' tall, and elevated on a stone pedestal. Pics taken with a Canon 20D, 100-300 IS zoom, no external flash. This image speaks of toil and hard labour to me. The fresh rain on a farmer's brow, his expression gazing skyward evoke many emotions and feelings typical of prairie settlers to me....happy....tired....committed....thankful.
