Apologies for the driveby commentary to follow, Bri ... on the run here.

First, and once again ... very good quality to your photo here. Well-reproduced colours, very natural ... good exposure throughout and within frame.

Question of sorts ... shot from the bank?

And another ... how willing are you to get wet? Lol.

Aside from a slight adjustment via a rotation clockwise to 'level' things some more ... as presented to us and simply put ... a lil' too much lean to the left and down ...

The first thought that came to mind, was that if you have created some separation with an introduction of some water between that of the reflected reeds and the grouping of rocks ... might have worked better on some compositional points of consideration. Isolating the rocks in essence, and more so.

Add in, and just my humble opinion of course ... as the rocks are such a strong visual anchor ... perhaps, lowering them within frame?

Sky is a little lackluster, maybe incorporating the above suggestions and eliminating it entirely might also work.

Alllll that said ... really like the DOF you employed and this is a good good shot. Despite the impression that the words above may give.

Calming, zen-like ... nice.

Thanks for sharing this one with us ... and let's see what the others have to say. :o)

Bri, I really liked the three main elements of your photo. The grassy shoreline, the rocky island, and the water separating them. It is an interesting capture and well done.

The focus on the rocks is great.. I think you used a big aperture and that is a choise you have made and I do enjoy a lot. Good photography for me. Mich

Looks like a great place to sit on the rocks and just watch mother nature at it's best. The coloring is great and all three elements together is a perfect touch.

Have agree with Les that it's very Zen like!

Ok, came back ... hopefully to get my feet out of mouth and planted on terra firma where they belong (tend to fall over a lot without them in place).

In what is to follow, my apologies if it irks you in any way in that I downloaded your photo here and 'shopped it a bit, towards the ends of clarifying my thoughts in my previous post. If it bothers you in any way to have these 'reworks' up on my imageshack account, just let me know via PM ... no questions asked, of course, as it is your work ... down they come.

So ...

Of note, aside from any other edits made ... 'balance' seems to have come to the forefront as the operative word and consideration. Notice the area(s) of the sky in the upper left, now mirrors that of the area(s) below the grouping of rocks in the bottom right (see the versions below).

Tried a crop, getting rid of the sky entirely ... didn't really work.

Cropped as is (again, referencing the versions below)?

Also seemed to address the issue of the aforementioned ... 'leaning to the left and down'.

The perspective as presented now, and as always in my humble opinion ... puts 'us' there, more so. With the group of rocks acting as a visual anchor and a place to rest our eyes ... to my eyes and mind now, 'we' are invited to look out beyond and enjoy the rest of the setting/scene that you captured so well.

So ...

It all boiled down, or I should say and more appropriately ... my prior verbosity came down to that of a simple cropping. More or less.

Lost in translation in the 'reworks' ... was that of the really nice soft light of your original. The varying textures that were and are still in place, captured by you ... still there to enjoy. (The varying textures were and are strong elements, in and of themselves and added appeal.)

So ...

First up; "The crop" (more or less).

Then, for fun and some creative food for thought for you; "The B & W version" (blue filter used mostly, with some adjustments to the red and yellow).

Lastly; 'The B & W version' layered over 'The crop' (with an adjustment of it's layer's opacity ... down to that of 25%).

After all is said and done ... and I will reiterate, once more ... nice work. :o)

Les did some fine work on this and not to take anything away from that , I do prefer your original. The sky would be better with a color replacement but other than that I like this , nice image.

This is a good photo, but maybe if you could of backed off some the reeds in the background would not of been blurred however it may of been the reeds that got caught on the right of the photo may have caused that. Regardless, I think this is a decent photo.
