Another of my favourite routes, this terribly busy highway, cuts across Southern New Mexico, from just South of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, and West, to Deming. It also provides many a scenic site, in a relatively short, hour's drive.

I've always loved black and whites, but I'm coming to love them more and more. This is a really great shot, but the slant on the horizon does bother me slightly.

if at first you don't succeed, you're about normal.

Never noticed, as the horizon is completely uneven, but will have a close look at the original. Thanks Ian.

I thought this looked familiar...I was on this same highway a few years ago when you mentioned the names of the cities in your narration. Definitely is a very scenic route.
I like how you did this in B/W & the depth here is fantastic. One thing, I do agree with Ian, in that the horizon is uneven. Other than that...well done.

that's almost spooky… like the road to nowhere…

Great contrast and composition. While the horizon slant would normally bother me, I think it adds to the hyperrealistic mood here.

I love B&W for what it can do, bring out textures & evoke moods & feelings & this is no exception. A wonderful shot, a bit somber & subdued but the contrasts are fantastic. Beautifully done ! Love it !

Excellent photograph. At a guess I would say that the horizon is naturally sloping because the road and the lines on the road appear to be in perspective -and flat in relation to the horizon. I agree with lauren in that B&W photography can evoke more moods and emotion -and detail.
Keep up the good work!

Very moody photo. Really shows how stark the desert really is. Nice work Doug.

I feel like I am fading. I've lost the Holy Ground. Maybe there's a chance, that the lost will be found. If you saw a possum on the side of the road, would you too?

Wonderful, sharp high-contrast shot. This is home for me. Thanks for inspiring me to experiment with monochrome in some of my photos. Deming has only one "m" though.

Looks like a scene from the Twilight Zone. I think there is a hitch-hiker lurking around :P
The black & white really makes the road stand out. Great shot!!

I love roads that go through nowhere to get somewhere. B&W makes it so much better. Looking at it I can just imagine driving my '75 diesel baby blue mercedes benz accross the desert. I love it! Thanks for sharing.

I love absolute black in a B/W photo! That you got it in the sky as well as the road is eerily wonderful. The freshly painted lines on the road make it look like a stripe of modern art in the most unlikely of places.

I like that this is like, hardcore B/W, and not grey and white like mine are.. Anyway, the contrast is amazing. It's going in my faves.. and probably to my desktop.

Kudos

You had a pretty picture, you had a pretty smile, you had a heart of ice and you put me in denial. You broke my heart a thousand times, you broke my heart just once, you made me see all i need is me and not some stupid... girl.

Very nice. I, like the others before me, like the B + W in this shot. It really makes the scene stand out. This is another road that I have traveled.

Amazing contrast. Normally I'd be all obsessive-compulsive and wouldn't be able to get past the horizon slant, but here I think it looks right... better than it would if the horizon were flat, actually.

I like your approach with the 'off' immediate horizon. The road which encompasses the bottom of the shot is really nice.
