Usually , Buck Lake freezes over in December and stays that way till around the end of March. For the last three years it has been reopening in January from temperatures of 50 degrees F, (10-C.) It then freezes over again, after a few days, till late March or early April. This just documents one of those times, and Blue likes to sit up on this rocky outlook to watch the otters play, if they're in the neighbourhood.

I think Blue is onto something. He might also enjoy being with the children in my post. Quite a beautiful view from here, Doug. Could be my monitor, but the top of the large rock seems to have a band of purple unless that was your intention. A fantastic scene for sure, Doug.

An impressive scene. The little tree dead center is an interesting touch. Somehow some of the colors seem a bit over strong. Having the dog surveying the scene is a great addition.

Hi, Doug...

Does Blue ever jump into the water to chase those otters?

Lovely shot. Excellent composition. Ed made a valid point on the color saturation. It's just on the edge of being Rogeresque.

I thought I was imagining the rainbow on the snow, glad someone else mentioned it. Striking blue colours in this capture and a lovely view of the lake. Very nice work Doug.

Doug - Wonderful color saturation and control of the lighting on the snow. The composition leads the eye through the center of the image, taking in the excellent depth. Thad
