Just a snapshot I thought might be interesting. Particularly to dry landers. This is Bear River, Nova Scotia. The river is a tidal one, and if you look close at the concrete support at the far end of the bridge.. you'll see the high tide discoloration. The Atlantic tide rises to just below the floorboards of those buildings near the river. The large building on the left is the Fire Station, and if you have a fire at low tide, it could be out before the tide comes in. Seriously, I never thought to ask anyone whether salt water could be used, but it seemed a handy place to fill pumpers.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

A lovely view of the community, Doug. Never been there myself, but I been close a few times. Nicely composed scene with some interesting lighting and colours.

Hi, Doug....

First of all I'm sorry that I'm so far behind in my comments. I'm still in San Diego and noticed that I was approaching 70 comments. I figured I'd better start at the top and work my way down. Maybe I'll get to your previous postings in a year or two.

I'm favorably intrigued with the lighting that skims over the tops of the trees. I love the way that you shown us the high tide line. The foreground grass turning to muddy brown reminds me of the backwaters of the estuaries that empty in Morro Bay. I'm a little surprised that you didn't clone out the power lines on the left. Other than that and a suspicious amount of green in the sky, the shot is a beauty. I'm especially impressed with the detail on the distant buildings and the post photo work in general.

Doug - The tidal changes in the northern latitudes are striking and in Nova Scotia quite a show with the effects of the Bay of Fundy and Minas Channel. Nice post work on this fine comp. Thad

Very expertly composed. I can see where a less experienced hand, like mine, might have captured a much inferior rendering of this scene. I think you've caught it in its best possible incarnation. The flow of the lines in the lower half and the glimpse of a building's reflection work their magic well.

The tide is an amazing wonder of the planet earth. I don't know if I'd want to live on a house with stilts, but it made for a wonderful picture, Doug.
