This was taken in Grace Hospital where I had my first eye operation.I always carried a camera and the hospital was no exception. This little guy was awake late one night, and was missing his home and family. The nurses must have all been having coffee as there was no one in the immediate area. I talked to him for a minute and went back to my room for some jelly beans and my Leica. He was quietly crying again and I grabbed this shot. I think he thought I wasn't coming back. Now he was more interested in the camera than the jelly beans, but he finished them before a nurse turned up and took him back to his bed.

Doug - Never underestimate the medicinal value of jelly beans! You captured his anxiousness well; the Scripture passage on the wall is the perfect complement. Thad

A very tender moment for both of you, and well captured by you. With the writing on the wall, what a perfect set up for a shot.

He forgot his worries for a moment and is now looking at the camera. Very nice and natural shot Doug.

Your circa 1050's shots have been terrific, Doug. Each shot tells a a story even without your narratives, and that, my friend, says much about your photography.

The part of the story you left out is that the little boy was suffering from juvenile diabetes, and the jellybeans put him into a coma.

Even the best intentions can have repercussions that were never intended.

An emotional capture of the little boy. Glad you were there for him, Doug & the kind gesture you did for him made him forget that he was homesick for his family. Who knows the boy may be a photographer today. Excellent!
