Shot this on B&W 35mm film way back in the early 1960's. It's a reverse of the one I originally posted a few years ago. Just thought he'd like to have had this version as well. He was the most friendly and humble artist I ever encountered.

Doug, what a pleasure it is to see you post again. I think this is a superbly done image of him. I agree with Tick, about what you have been able cover in the past years, I bet it was never dull.

Lucky you. To have that opportunity. I recently saw a Picture of Mr. Armstrong playing for his wife by the great pyramids, gave me goosebumps. This photo is of exceptional quality.

A wonderful portrait of Satchmo; who inspired me to learn to play the trumpet when I was just a youngster. I was terrible at it and quickly changed to the piano. Any photos of Liberace? lol. I like the light and texture in this one, Doug. It's so nice to see a post from you.

One of the best!...Satch was/is a legend, and I still love to listen to his music!

terrific work from the 35mm neg!...I still say...this was much better than today's digital stuff...Meant, you 'had to work' at capturing an image!

My all time favorite jazz artist / singer. I still remember when I heard "It's A Wonderful World" for the very first time on the radio. A wonderful portrait of Satchmo.

Doug - Terrific photo, scan and post-photo work! A teacher at my high school used to describe his coming over to her family's house for dinner on occasion, as he was friends with her parents. Too, she described his down-to-earth demeanor - and using the ubiquitous (for him) handkerchief to wipe his brow continuously. Thad
