This section of tree was about 50 ft. off the ground, and I studied it almost every day when walking the dogs, but never figured out how it got to be that shape. It was well off the path but had no wind fall anywhere near it. I suppose someone could have taken any ground pieces home for fire wood.

Never see a tree which is thinner at the bottom ! You have given it a second life with this shot Doug.

Doug - Slowly the tree fades away... this fine image preserves it for the ages. It is quite a dramatic sky as background.

A dramatic capture of this unusual tree...as if in its' final stages of life it was reaching for Heaven itself...a fave for me.

My guess is woodpeckers having their way with the tree. There was a tree in the backyard at home that they similarly shaped over the years as they chipped away pieces of it. Good colours and textures in the tree and a great looking sky in the scene, Doug.
