Nat, I think I've seen it all now! Amazing timing and great focus. The title is so appropriate, too. - Patty

Wonderful photo -- I'm surprised you managed to get so close. This is a European Mantis (which also happens to be the state insect of Connecticut, don't ask me why). Based on its size, I'd guess that "he" is in fact a "she" -- the males are smaller, and often get their heads bitten off during the mating process.

Where do you find such interesting little creatures? All I ever see are boring little ants and flies! And how do you manage to capture them so well with such great depth and focus? How do you get them to pose so perfectly for you?
Amazing!

He must have stood out from the crowd! Maybe he was hailing a taxi! Really a cute shot! It's amazing what things photographers pick up on that others might not even notice or notice but pay no heed to.

Never rebuke while you’re still indignant about a fault committed—wait until the next day, or even longer. Then calmly, and with a purer intention, make your reprimand. You’ll gain more by a friendly word than by a three-hour quarrel. -Josemaria Escriva

Clarity is perfect, right down to the shadow, and I am the ever blur the background out queen..lol...I am very glad you didn't do that in this pic, because the insect is so clearly taken that s/he points up the defects in the ground around him/her, which I think adds volumes to the post...great job :)PJ

Great capture of this little guy. Did he try to attack the camera? Well done.
