Native American Hopi name, meaning "blossom". It's actually quite an old fractal that I had stuck in my trash folder, but recently my good Caedes friend Nikoneer encouraged me to submit it. Best viewed in full screen. Comments are always welcome and appreciated. Hope you enjoy & thanks for looking! :) Lori

I think he knows where of he speaks. This is beautiful, Lori! It just pops out at you and pulls you into it. I like the spirally effect.

This reminds me of the Pheasants that were all over South Dakota where I was raised. The colours are the same, and this actually appears like feathers. PRetty colours, so rich. Verena

I am very glad that Nikoneer persuaded you Lori to post Yamka. It was interesting in the thumbnail, but took my breath away at full size. You created a picture so rich in complementary colors. The greens, browns, and hint of yellow all work so well together.

The first time I saw this piece, as a thumbnail, it was in a group of about 40+ images. Even surrounded by other fractals it pulled my attention. When I brought it to full screen, I forgot to breathe. By adjusting my stereo acuity it becomes something different each time I look at it. It could be a large, flat, intricate flower of feathers, with a brightly glowing inner petal and pistil, or the birth of a star seen down a tunnel of nebula-size clouds, ribbed and banded like the feathers of a multi-colored bird. There are two levels of dimension going on here: the pair of parallel spirals, crafted of glowing feathers, appear to be far in the distance, blending from color to color, but the "star" in the center is in front of them, creating those outer soft shadows and inner glowing edges. A spatially unorthodox but fascinating presentation, again reminiscent of M.C. Escher's work — so many of your pieces are. Then, to add to the multi-dimensional character, lines of some force, distorting reality, reach from the star all the way to my eye, giving me a connection and making me a part of this beautiful image. I'm glad you decided not to change the red; it's both the vanishing point for all this detail, and the source of strength and dimension, making the whole come alive. I think it's my favorite of any fractal I've seen in Caedes.

Whenever you submit a piece that is exceptional, I usually show it to my wife (come to think of it, I've been showing her a lot of your work recently). When she saw "Yamka," she saw a metamorphosis. From the center out to about where the gold color starts, she sees the feathers most of us are seeing, but at that point she sees a smooth morph into silk scarves. With a jewel at the center, I think she wants to wear it.
