After seeing many old aircraft the younger generation have never seen and the older generation will never forget, I am loading a few airplanes from the recent EAA event at Oshkosk, Wisconsin.
Hello ted302 thanks for posting this incredible beautifull image of an eara gone by.
In answer to Dunstickin, who replied here above me:
It is a B 24 Liberator build by Consolidated.
This 2WW Bomber has always been underated against the Boeing B 17 Flying Fortress, but if you check both airplains records, you can clearly see who the winner is.
For me, this is the most beautifull American bomber of the WW2, and it is great to see it in flying condition. Thanks a lot for posting it here at caedes.
Hans has got his facts right ... Thanks for this great image of a famous airplane. I can remember these as a youngster during WWII. One of my favorite "trading cards" at the time. Lord I am getting old. Looking forward to seeing some more like this. Thanks again for posting.
an easy mistake to make mixing it up with a Lancaster as they are very similar both in appearance and specifications. nice capture of this old bird indeed.
Thanks Ted for posting this magnificent bomber. My uncle (God rest his soul) flew many sorties over Germany in this plane. He was shot down several times. The last time, he went down, he (the pilot) lost all his crew. Upon arriving back in the States,he visited each and everyone of their familiies, and later became an engineer for the Rock Island railroad. I have not thought of Russell for sometime now, but he will always be a hero to me. Thanks so much for for sharing this excellent capture .............Neil
Never rebuke while you’re still indignant about a fault committed—wait until the next day, or even longer. Then calmly, and with a purer intention, make your reprimand. You’ll gain more by a friendly word than by a three-hour quarrel.
