The first thing that caught my eye when I opened this one was the washout in the upper portion of the statue. If you open this photo in Photoshop and apply the burn tool to that area, you will eliminate some of that wash. I tried it myself at about 70% opacity in the midtones with a brush about 200 in size. Trial and error will show you when to stop applying the tool because too much application will make the shadows almost granulate, appearing even worse than a wash. My trial removed about half the wash and that made the whole photo look much better. Luckily, when experimenting like this, you're not required to save the document if you don't want to and can start all over again.
