A flooded Center Lake which is in the nearby town of Warsaw, Indiana. The dark area towards the right in the water is part of the pier.

A little over a year ago we had even more flooding. You can view an image taken at that time here .

I would like to take the time to ask if anyone out there know's much about Duck behavior. The ducks down a the pond are laying eggs but here and there and little bit of everywhere and not nesting on them???? Even laying them right out in the open sometimes. Anyone know why this might be. They have found several eggs in different places and they do not seem to be taking care of them. I appreciate any help on this one. I might google it up.

Thanks in advance for your comments and any idea's on my question.

Just beautiful Sandi. You really have a knack for this type of scene. Love the reflections and the blues and red/yellows are just perfect. Grand job.

All I know about ducks eggs is they are larger then chicken eggs but not as big as a Ostrich egg. Sorry. Think I will sit down by this great scene and ponder eggs. Don't shoot until you see the whites of their eggs. Great blast from the past Tigz.

Gorgeous glowing sunset ... the rich looking golds & subtle blues set the scene off nicely.

The only thing I can think of in regards to your question about ducks abandoning a nest of eggs is that the hen sensed a predator ... this is highly common with Wood Ducks. Wood Ducks may also abandon a nest if there are too many eggs to incubate. Most ducks will leave the nest for a short time to feed & rest especially if there are more eggs to be layed yet before the incubation period begins. Most wildlife including waterfowl will leave a nest if a predator (this includes humans) is nearby. I'd leave the eggs untouched as the hen will most likely be back.

Back to your capture ... very nicely composed & I'm enjoying the peacefulness coming from it. Excellent work Sandi.

Wow, this is a really beautiful capture Sandi, Terrific job. About those eggs, I thought of two possible reasons. 1; maybe the eggs you are finding are bad eggs and are being discarded away from the nests, and 2; maybe you are finding evidence of a midnight raid either from a hungry animal or maybe some kid's sick humor. Though Sherree brings up a valid point.

A beautiful and colourful sunset Sandi. Hmmmm! Duck eggs? I'll take em over medium with hash browns and bacon. Maybe the ducks like you and want you to sit on the eggs for them. Excellent post thanks for sharing.

Sandi great colours in this post. A very good one! What I know is that birds need a quiet place where they are sure that they can nesting on the eggs. If people or animals disturb them they stop nesting most of the time. I hope there is an expert on Caedes who can tell you for 100%. Have a good day.. ps Birds have eggs without a good nest simply because a ´birdman´ has been pairing. My little birds have in this time of the year eggs without a nest too. Nature ; )

Sandi read the coments above and think that Sherree and Michel have a very reasonable explanation. Another possibility would have been that the environment is that polluted (and the birds therefore are poisoned) that their behaviour is influenced by the poison. Saw it for instance at the coast after a passing vessel had cleaned its sewage tanks with chemical means and dumped the poisoned water illegally in the sea. Watching your image however, think we can forget this option.
Thanks for this wonderful post my friend. I enjoy it very much!
Regards, Cornelius.

Great capture... the oranges are just shy of being oversaturated so good job keeping them away from moving into the too saturated realm.. haha The saturation is just enough that we can see a bit of blue left in the sky which is nice. The composition as a whole is great and i love the little bit of framing coming from the branches in the top left. Nicely done!
