I did some postwork to hopefully make this a magical/painted look, it was cropped to get rid of the bland overcast sky, the day before was beautiful, but they are closed on Mondays.

This was taken during a visit to Cheekwood in Nashville, Tn.

Here is the info. on this wonderful place, if I lived down there I would be here a good part of my free time.

THE HISTORY OF CHEEKWOOD The history and origin of Cheekwood are intimately interwoven with the growth of Nashville, the Maxwell House coffee brand and the Cheeks, one of the city's early entrepreneurial families. Christopher T. Cheek moved to Nashville in the 1880's and founded a wholesale grocery business. His son, Leslie Cheek joined him as a partner. In 1896, Leslie Cheek married Mabel Wood of Clarksville, Tennessee. Their son, Leslie, Jr. was born in 1908 and their daughter, Huldah, in 1915. By that year, Leslie Cheek was president of the family firm. GOOD TO THE LAST DROP During these same years, the elder Cheeks cousin, Joel Cheek, developed a superior blend of coffee that was marketed through the best hotel in Nashville, the Maxwell House. His extended family, including Leslie and Mabel Cheek, were investors. In 1928, Postum (now General Foods) purchased Maxwell House's parent company, Cheek-Neal Coffee, for more than $40 million. With their income secured by the proceeds from the sale, the Cheeks bought 100 acres of what was then woodland in West Nashville for a country estate. To design and build the house and grounds, they hired New York residential and landscape architect, Bryant Fleming, and gave him control over every detail - from landscaping to interior furnishings. The result was a limestone mansion and extensive formal gardens inspired by the grand English houses of the 18th century. Fleming's masterpiece, Cheekwood, was completed in 1932. BEGINNINGS AND ENDINGS Leslie and Mabel Cheek moved into the mansion in January 1933. Leslie Cheek lived at Cheekwood for just two years before his death at 61. In 1943, Mabel Cheek deeded the house to her daughter, Huldah Cheek Sharp and her husband, Walter Sharp. The Sharps lived at Cheekwood until the 1950s when they offered it as a site for a botanical garden and art museum. The development of the property was spearheaded by the Exchange Club of Nashville, the Horticultural Society of Middle Tennessee and many other civic groups. The Nashville Museum of Art donated its permanent collections and proceeds from the sale of its building to the effort. The new Cheekwood opened to the public in 1960. MISSION Cheekwood is a 55-acre botanical garden and art museum located on the historic Cheek estate. Cheekwood exists to celebrate and preserve its landscape, buildings, art and botanical collections and, through these unique means, provide an inspiring place for visitors to explore their connections with art, nature and the environment.

Your editing is as good as any Count B has done Tigz. I sure can see the similarity. It is magnificent. I would vote it for the perms but I don't have any votes left.
I am sure someone else will. I did fave it.
Very interesting reading as well.

Very vivid, Tigs. I'm sure that is a beautiful mansion on all sides and they probably have gorgeous gardens a plenty. Nice work on the final image. Looks like some HDR here? I'm not fond of Maxwell House coffee, btw. lol

So I can't wait to get to Facebook tonight, Tigs, and see what the Nashville jail was like. I only have 3 critiques left to write (2 of them are yours) tonight before I check out my emails and Facebook. I spent the day walking, swimming and splitting wood; so a few more comments and I'm a free man. So here we go.

If you were shooting for dreamy, you hit the target. To me this looks like what TicK calls FDR. FDR seems to work for some shots and not for others. Sometimes FDR mixed with colorful leaves is just too darn powerful for me. I mentioned this to Cindy on one of her autumn shots too. I might be full of beans, but my brain just overloads and I end up frothing at the mouth like a rabid dog. It looks great, but there's just too much of IT.

Have you tried ShiftN? Doug told me about it. What a lifesaver when you're shooting building with parallel lines. The front of the house appears to be left leaning because of the wide angle distortion. ShiftN fixes that.

All and all, the shot's a beaut. I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't taken all that meth.

Sandi, thougt that you went to Nashville TN, for the C&W music, but see now that enhancement of your historical and/or cultural education was a part of your trip as well.

Thanks for this fine image and a very interesting story.

Regards, Cornelius.

I had to do this as my wallpaper. Funny to see that this could be in my village, Wassenaar in Holland, where a lot of people (not me :-) live in big big houses. Wonderful work.. my good friend! Mich
