During one of my visits to the calendar gardens, I spotted two of these snakes slithering through the lily pond, even though I thought they were kind of creepy, I found them interesting to watch as they slithered on top of the lily pads.
I have no idea what kind of snake this is, but the lady that works there, has pictures of this kind of snake protruding out from the stone wall that surrounds the walkway around the pond, talk about creepy!

Ooo! Looks like they have membranes on their eyes to protect them from the water. I'd find it creepy too. Never had an interest in snakes, but maybe it would be a good idea to check some of them out for further reference. Great shot too, Tigs.

A "snake in the grass," this case lily pads, is a snake in the grass Tigz. Camera looks pretty still so you must be brave. If I had a tripod, I would have swatted the snake. :)

I don't like snakes.But this is a Fantastic photo,Sandi..I saw a snake too,in my last trip.It was very little,compared to this.

That's a superb close up of this fellow, wish I could see his back and markings. He's getting ready to shed his skin, look at the way the eyes are clouded over, that's because he's getting ready to rid himself of the old skin.
That's just a typical Northern Water Snake, they are not a threat for humans, they just bite repeatedly, not poisonous. I'm pretty good at identifying types being from the deep south.

He has a shedable cover over his eyes making a little blind which also makes him doubly dangerous. He's getting ready to shed his skin possible. Wicked lo0oking beast!

Good capture Sandi. I had one of them slither up on me one time while I was watching another one. Went right over my right boot and off on its way. Sure gave me the willys!!
