A new lens arrived today, and this is one my first attempts with it.

Weather was not permitting me to get out and take shots, so hopefully tomorrow I will be able to go to my favorite gardens.

I used my Canon 40D with the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM lens. The editing was done using the canon software (Digital Photo Professional) and then put it into photofiltre and cropped it a bit, and resized it.

I did use fill flash, with no inside lighting turned on, just used the light through the window.

Thank you for your comments.

I have been looking at that lens for quite a while, Sandi...but I don't have enough pennies saved yet to get it. I can see that it's a good'un...along with your photography skills. The kitty cat looks absolutely fantastic. Superb color and clarity.

A very cool shot sandi. Bella looks gorgeous, and patient. Pretty soon you'll be posting close-ups of just her eye. And they'll look great. Excellent resolution with the 40D too, you can count every hair on her chin. I owned the MP-E65 before I bought the 100mm, so I had the clarity of that superb lens to judge it by. I think the new 100mm is every bit as sharp as the MP-E65 at 1X, there was no detectable difference for me. That's why I knew the new lens would run rings around just about anything else out there. It's as close to a perfect lens as I've found.

Sandi,
In the first place: congrats with your new lens.

In the second place: I was (at full screen size) almost hypnotized by Bella's intriguing green eyes and red wet nose, lol.

Perfect use of the so called 'fill-in flash'. This has resulted, in combination with your new 'toy', in an excellent 'portrait'.

Beautiful portrait of Bella. The wetness of her reddish nose, the pretty green eyes and her distinct fur coloring...and the black background to set her off!
