I have been trying to get one of them in flight, this time I pulled off. Took this yesterday with my old Nikon D3000.They were fluttering all about at this preserve.

This will be my contest entry. I thought hummingbirds were hard to stop action with the lens, this was a big challenge.

Thank you for commenting.

This is a lovely shot that would be nice on a greeting card. It has a peaceful beautiful day kind of feel to it. I like it.

You got a very nice and clear "in flight" shot of the Monarch Sandi. Probably newborns fly slower. I have tried to catch a morpho in flight but never got a decent photo.

Oh, very nicely done. Not only did you stop the action, it looks frozen in time, suspended in the air. And I really do like the way you've framed this.

Emptiness is not nothingness. It is simply the opposite of full of it.

Sandi, I told you before that a cabbage white almost has caused a nervous breakdown to me by it's continuous fluttering. I was frustrated not capable to take any image of it.
So to me, your narrative is kind of 'deja vu', with the difference that you've succeeded in capturing a Monarch 'in flight'. Must have been your better patience and/or your skills. I envy you my friend, lol!

Stop action with a b'fly is exceedingly difficult Sandi - quite an accomplishment with this goodie! Kudos!

It's rare for use to see a butterfly that isn't sitting on a flower or something. This is a fantastic capture of the monarch heading for a resting place, Sandi. Beautiful clarity and lighting as well as color. Love that bokeh, too. Excellent shot.

Sandi - You captured it in mid-flight - no easy task. I like the perspective of the garden in which this butterfly is at work.
