This is Spotted Dead Nettle - Lamium Maculatum Sandi and one of my favorite groundcovers. It grows in mounds with purple, white or pink flowers that resemble snapdragons a bit. I've always liked the leaves as well with the white blotches. This is an excellent capture of it almost ready to open.
Fine shot, Tigs. The leaves remind me of some of the coleus plants around here, but I don't think they flower. If Kathy says it's Lamium Maculatum, then it's Lamium Maculatum dammit.
Dorothy Michaels: No, just Dorothy. Alan's always Alan, Tom's always Tom and John's always John. I have a name too. It's Dorothy, capital D-O-R-O-T-H-Y.

I love the contrast of the purple flowers and silvery leaves - it makes a very nice picture. I have grown it in the past but my flowers were white and not nearly so pretty.
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
