I too always find these interesting and I keep on thinking about taking a shot when I see one but haven't - glad you did!

Your picture proves that beauty is not skin deep. You have found it in the many covering layers on this forest gem.

It is indeed a fascinating tree...very unusual and one I've never seen before...it looks like it is shedding its' skin...great find and well detailed closeup SAS.

I've never seen one quite that extreme. We have birch trees here that shed, but nothing like that. Quite a unique capture.

I have a very old fuchsia bush with similar peeling bark - never thought of photographing it but you have given me the idea :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

That tree is in need of some vaseline intensive care. It will sooth that dry barky skin and keep it from cracking. Love it Tigs.

Usually, trees such as this when "shedding" their bark, tend to rely on fire to help them survive. Much of our long leaf pine trees need fire to help the pine cones open.
