On our way home from EFRC, we discovered that this area known for 31 covered bridges was not far off the main road we were traveling, so took a detour. We googled a few of them, and checked them out before heading north to home.

Right now they are having their annual covered bridge festival, and after driving the narrow roads, that lead to them I'm so glad I'm not there now! This is a huge festival, and I cannot imagine the traffic conditions. :)

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I agree with R. about the angle - perfect perspective and I've seen some of the covered bridges in southern Indiana too.

We had quite a few in our area that was in use when I was a youngster. Nothing like the thrill of creaking lumber as you drove slowly across them suspended high above the water below. Now They are tourist attractions. The roads bypass them and some have even been torn down. This covered bridge looks nice and is similar to the one 10 miles from here. Good capture Sandi.

Great photo Sandi. I am always fascinated by these bridges - have never seen on in reality. I don't understand the purpose of covering them but they look very nice :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

A great capture of Americana. I have only seen a couple in my life, Indiana, and throughout the Midwest is where you mainly find them. Vermont, New Hampshire etc.

Very fine capture here. We have a few bridges around Winterset here in Iowa. This looks like one of them.

This is a great area you've found, very very picturesque! I wasn't there, so I'm not sure if it was available to do, but I think the composition would be improved by moving the camera to the left and "shortening" the bridge and cropping out some more of the sky. That would give you more of a sense of "range" with the bridge while simulatneously making it more focal. The color throughout here is well balanced so that you get the richness of the color of the bridge without losing the age/feeling of it.
