Did you know ~ As with most other blue-hued birds, the blue jay's coloration is not derived from pigments but is the result of light interference due to the internal structure of the feathers, if a blue feather is crushed, the blue disappears because the structure is destroyed. This is referred to as structural coloration.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Nice to know about the color pigment on these jays. Still a nice capture.

You are getting some wonderful shots here Sandi. I'm glad you have a natural element for the birds and critters to perch on for a great image. Nice focus and good facts.

I did not know that about the birds colors Tigz.
Thanks for the information and a great photo.
It looks right at home on the limb.

Beautiful capture of the jay's blue color Sandi and a fascinating narrative about their feathers.

Thanks for both the 'lesson' and for another wonderful bird capture, Sandi!
Think the blue jay has chosen for a strategic position to approach the feeder. You've used this opportunity in the most optimal way, my friend!

Adorable image, great framing and background. I have fond childhood memories having flocks of these birds around.
