Hunkered Down

Yesterday I spotted two mourning doves out my window, which is something I don't usually see, so of course I grabbed the camera. This one was hunkered down like a puff ball to deal with the snow we were having, we were in 4-6 inch area, and I'm guessing we hit around 6.

Thanks for commenting.

Sandi, in the spring and summer my bedroom window is open so that I'm plagued very early by the cries of mourning pigeons. On the one hand I've to be happy that nature is so close, but on the other hand I would be happy that they would allow me to sleep somewhat longer.
This one doesn't have the guts now what its colleagues show on the other side of the big pond in the spring and summer.
The harsh winter weather in your area is the reason for that. The fact that they've come so close now, shows that they need your 'food distribution program', 😁 !
For them you are the lifesaver!

Thanks for another fine addition of this series!

This Mourning Dove seems to be a bit angry and doesn't want to hear about the "early bird gets the worm" nonsense! "Just end this snow stuff and get on to Spring!"

You not only have amazing photographic skills, you somehow also have the gift of being able to snap these photos before they fly away... such an endearing and wonderful scene you have created. I could look at this all day, love the colors, tones, backgrounds, and stance of the little dove. Favorite.

Finally a snow storm we missed Tigz. The dove looks like it wishes your area had missed it as well.
Love the title. Hunkered is such a cool word.
Another great shot from your window view.

Love the sound of the doves. We have a pair here most of the year. Nice photo of the cold little fellow.

Poor thing is really suffering due to the cold. Nice and clear shot Sandi.

I'm sorry you got the snow Sandi - we were supposed to and all I got was 1/2" - thought weather forecasting was improving with computers! This is lovely - I do see mourning doves around here sometimes but not close enough to get a great shot like this.

Sorry, that it is so snowy but it made for a perfect background for this morning dove though. Such a beautiful image and it tells a story even if you had not provided the narrative for it. What wonderful separation of creature from natural surroundings...what a gift you have, Tigz.

Looks like the spring birds are arriving Tigs - Great Shot - Would you believe, here in south jersey, we didn't have any measureable snow this season - only a coating in December!!!!!!!!
