Good spotting. We used to get these when I was stationed in Malaysia. We called them flying frog. They were huge in the Tropics...R.

A fine portrait of this 'handsome' (😁) and hard working critter, Sandi.
I 'don't know much about cicada's because they don't or hardly occur in my country.
So I don't know whether or not they are harmful to nature.
An intriguing photograph though!

So that is what they look like coming out, getting ready to sing to us. Quite unusual looking aren't they? Great capture.

I'm not a fan of cicadas but this is an interesting shot - there's a giant one hanging around the top of my balcony this morning - I've already killed 3 wasps this morning but I took care not to hit the cicada.

Many years ago when my boys were grade school age, we camped at a local lake for the night, in the middle of a very active cicada season. Nearing midnight we kept hearing small objects striking our tent and, looking out through a screen I saw that it was a bug of some kind, quite likely drawn to the camping area by the lights from campfires, lanterns, flashlights, a yard light by the dumpsters, etc. So I stood up and unzipped the door, stuck my head out to attempt to identify the bug, and was promptly smacked right in the mouth by one--HARD! Those things are not only a sizable bug but that carapace is very tough, very hard. Not only that but I found that the dang thing--not even stunned--had decided to cling to my beard and mustache. Now, looking closely at that ugly thing you captured here, Sandi, imagine having one stuck on your face! Oy vey!!!

-nik (this one definitely brought back a memory for me ;o)
