Taken while driving on 101 freeway in Santa Barbara, CA. In real life you could see flames over 50 ft tall. Too difficult to capture while driving over 65mph.
I am amazed at how close the fire was to the freeway.
I live in Woodland Hills and the smoke from the fire
turned the sky orange on the afternoon of the second
day. When the sky gets that way you always know that
there is a fire.
This is one of those "breaking the rules" shots that is significally better than if you had stopped, gotten out your tripod, metered the light, set the aperature, selected your focus point and... run for your life! :) The blurred foreground bushes and the looming clouds with the flaming interiors makes this pic something I think you should enter in a photography show.
