These Laughing Kookaburras seemed to symbolise the arrival of spring for me as they sat in such a cosy manner. For those of you who are unfamiliar with our Laughing Kookaburra their call often sounds like human laughter and they chuckle too.

Robert, this is a great shot.
Are they sitting on an old gum tree is my question?

must be the strangest birds I have ever seen. their heads seem too big for their body, I don't know, the proportion just doesn't seem quite right... nature really do bizarre things^^. Or maybe it's the angle which give me that impression, I don't know... strange doesn't mean less cool though^^ it's a nice capture, their expression is a bit scary though^^

Well, they say you learn something new everyday and I just did. I have never heard or seen this bird before. Gorgeous birdies. I would give my right arm and left big toe to hear them "laugh". Thks for educating us. How in the world did you get that clear, plain background? Sure compliments the birds. Excellent.

Awesome capture of these beauties. Now the "Kookaburras" song is playing in my head :) This photo is wonderfully clear and composed superbly. I enjoy seeing the details of these birds - their soft feathers and those tiger stripped tails. They have striking coloring with those touches of turquise blue. The branch is visually appealing and rustic looking. As always, I'm in awe of your photography..thanks Robert :))

I had a friend that named himself "kookabura" in an online game we played. Never really took the time to figure out what it was, till I stumbled across one at the Zoo. Nice capture to get 2 of them. They look so akward with their oversized heads, though "King of fishing" they are!

I love this cite...now I've finally heard the laughter of the King of the Wood. I remember singing that song around the campfire at Girl Scout camp..it was a favorite, but never thought I'd hear them. Thanks for this wonderful picture, expect nothing but the best from you :) and even though it is a wonderfully technical shot, you've brought them to us in a light heartedly and engaging way.. thanks :)PJ

In elementary school, we learned the Kookaburra song and I've never forgotten it. I also never really knew what a Kookaburra looked like ... until now! Great capture, nice balance, and no distractions from the birds. Well done and thanks for the memory!

Very nice composition on interesting subjects. Is that Australian sky for real? I've always wondered, in your pictures of an ibis, a tree frog, and Willy, among others, they have a nice pastel blue sky color.
