I found these wonderfully deep maroon hollyhocks hiding under the foliage and really liked the way the sun peeks made them glow. I tried to enhance that effect in post work. Please give me some brutally honest critiques of this technique and any other comments if so inclined.

The blooms look a little like petoonies. Beautiful color and I like the way the sun is hitting them. Very nice.

I was really taken by the title, Kathy. Even though it was made before I was born, Breakfast At Tiffany's is one of my favourite films. As for brutally honest critique - how about Great Shot!

I think you did a wonderful job on this one, Honestly I do like it. The colors are beautiful and the transparent look of the flowers along with the lighting on the leaves. =^..^=sandi

Kathy - A little Orton does give the flowers a glow. Brilliant color, lovely play of light and shade. Thad

A really dreamy look you've achieved here, Kathy. Not easy with dark colours.

I really like the shot, but not the glare on some of the leaves. In my opinion it's distracting. To me other than that it's beautiful. This is just my thoughts on the photo. I'm just a beginner with this photo work though.

Kathy...

Beautiful post photo work. I like the use of light and dark in your photo although to me (and keep in mind that I don't know what I'm talking about) it seems like a few of the sunny patches are just a tad too bright. The bright spot that is dead center is exactly what I'd love to see. There's some color there and the sun really heightens the textural feel. The opposite appears to be true in the bright spot in the upper left. The texture and color are both gone leaving only a burned out white light. I don't know how you created this look, but it's glorious. If you could selectively turn down the brightness in a few spots, the photo would be perfect.

Except for those few spots of white light, the rest of the photo is startling. The colors are radiant, the detail and clarity of the stems are marvelous.

Roger

P.S. Re: the post photo work...how did you create this magnificent image and how long did it take, if you don't mind my asking for the inside scoop?

Kathy, I was thinking the same as Roger, about the leaf on the upper left, while taking in this gorgeous image in full view, trying to think of a suggestion for correction, but can think of none, other than perhaps using the burn tool to tone down the strong highlights in Photoshop, or maybe a dark vignette? I scrolled down to place a comment and noticed Roger's :) I think I would also crop out the tall stem on the far right... but that's just me. The softened, dreamy look you achieved in the blossoms is stunning, as is the fresh green of the detailed leaves and fuzzy stems! :) Excellent work, Kathy!
