Another for Foofy Friday - This was taken on the Kalaulau trail in Kauai. I am not certain it is a lily but it does bear a resemblance to the stalks that hosta plants put up when they bloom and they are of the lily family. It grew in clumps along the hillsides and was very striking in color as you see. My husband thinks it may be a type of wild orchid but as there are over 750 varieties of those in the islands I don't thin k we will know! All comments and critiques appreciated. PS I thank Lyn for identifying this flower for me - it belongs to the iris family but is commonly called Peruvian lily.

You sure don't see those here. I love the bright orange color. The lighting in this shot is perfect, too.

Beautiful colours in these blooms whatever they may turn out to be. A nice DOF in the shot as well. I like the softness of the focus. Good work and thanks for sharing.

Lovely shot Kathy:) It seems to be popping out of my screen and the water drops give a nice sparkle.

I am almost certain it it called Montbretia Crocosmia, and is a member of the Iris family.
They are also sometimes know as Peruvian lily even thought they are not lilies :) They grow wild in this country also and have become a pest. I love their brightness and have grown them in my garden in the past - until they started to take over :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . Kathy - When the flower lady can't identify it, she shouldn't ask me! lol It looks as though Lyn has a handle on it though. You have a 3D effect with this photo, with the flower popping off the screen in dimension and color. Very nice dof to accentuate this. Thad

I had a feeling Susie would have an idea about this flower. It is definitely very tropical. I have seen it in greenhouses. It is quite pretty and I would not know if it were lily or orchid, but it is very beautiful.
