I finally was able to get out on a small photography expedition yesterday and my camera actually worked for a change! This is the orginal bell from the first St. Marys Church in Fremont Center Township IL. The first church was built in 1864 by German farmers who immigrated to the area from Bavaria. In 1867 they commisioned a bronze bell for their church. It was cast by J. G. Stuckstede of St. Louis Mo. Today it stands in its own enclosure in front of the 2nd St. Marys Church which was built in 1889. (I will post a shot of that church in the future.) There is now a 3rd St. Marys Church which was built in 2002 but they wisely kept the 1889 building as well. All comments and critiques appreciated.

Kathy, I think you captured old style beauty of the bell, I like the details, and textures as well. I enjoyed the narrative just as much. Tigs♥ =^..^=

Wasn't Bing Crosby in that movie, Kathy? We have some of these old bells at the Mission de San Luis Obispo, but they're non-functioning. I appreciate the fact that the bell is actually mounted on a mechanical ringing device. I especially like the textures that you captured in the wood and metals. Lovely shot of a lovely old bell.

P.S. So your Panasonic decided to work again?

Pretty cool shot of the old bell. I can tell it's not the Liberty Bell..there's no crack in it. LOL.

Nice setting, perfect image of this attractive bell. I might have removed the left beam so it didn't draw my eye, but I might have done that in the shoot and not the software.

How many stories could it tell - for whom the bell tolls!

Kathy - The lighting was a challenge, with the bell being under a covering. But, you offer nicely balanced lighting here. Well done! Thad

A nice capture of the bell, Kathy. good details and textures in the photo. I might have framed it closer to the beam on the right and included more of the beam on the left.
