Among porcelains there were pieces created for almost every purpose - Victorians believed every food needed it's own special dish - oyster plates, fish platters, aparagus trays etc. The pieces were usually decorated to match the purpose. This is a very large pitcher - it would hold at least a quart and 1/2 maybe more. The center panel was highly glazed with almost a mirror like finish with the lemons on branches going full around. The top and bottom panels were a matte rusty brown color with gold and silver decor. This piece had unusual decor for it's time period leaning more toward the later arts and crafts type of decoration - it dates to around 1908. All comments and critiques appreciated.

Some people have Gurus, I have my camera. Through the cam lenses I have learnt to deeply perceive life, not only to see, but to look at all expressions of nature, becoming able to read the poetry of the flowers, receiving the embrace of the trees and flying above the clouds without wings! - Susie Sun

Lovely, thanks so much. And the story I hear is that the canny butler puts two clean pieces of silver inside the pitcher if the ice has run out...to make the Lemonade seem cool and refreshing to the ladies. Of course he doesn't let on that the clinking sound they hear isn't ice...

That would be one pricy cup of lemonade if I dropped this. A pretty picture of this pitcher, Kathy. Lovely colours and a nice textured background.

This is a very odd color and pattern for that time period. Usually you see bright flowers on a white background but its very odd to see this matte rusty brown. I love the lemons on this! You just dont see this very often. Very nice!
