An older flower in the annual world. Native Americans used it for medicinal purposes for themselves and their animals. But most progress in developing cultivars was made in Europe notably by Victor Lemoine in France, and by 1857 the German horticulturist Wilhelm Pfitzer listed 24 varieties of penstemon. This was a new cultivar for 2014 that caught my eye.
