This is Fountain Square in historic Long Grove Il. This was an old German farming community founded in the mid-1800's. As a means to save it the community became a haven of antique shops in the early 1960's which is how I first became acquainted with it. Many of the old buildings have been preserved and rehabbed into the boutiques and restaurants they are now - the antiques fell out of favor about 15 years ago. The old stonebottom round building you see at the far end was a grain mill and later became the Applehaus bakery. These are the backsides of the some of the old buildings whose fronts are streetside on the 2 streets that intersect the village.
