I'm starting an occasional series of posting from the prairie restoration area near where I live. I go there every summer to see what's blooming and find it very interesting and educational. Illinois, where I live, was once completely covered with prairie and wetlands and many native plants are still here but others have been lost. The prairies reserves, and there are several in the state, are trying to reinvigorate the species that were lost or almost lost. The picture today is Butterfly Milkweed, still found in the wild and an important source of food for monarch butterflies.

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Good that one realizes that 'Once lost, is always lost', Kathy.

Of course 'Butterfly Milkweed' is unknown to me, because we haven't prairies here, ☺ . Love this warm toned flower however.
Thanks for this very fine image and well documented narrative!

Kathy, the color is well captured in this shot, and I like the composition. Even though milkweed is considered a weed to farmers it is about the most important factor for the survival of the Monarch.
