Saw these really deeply colored Dianthus a few weeks ago. They are cousins to carnations and do well in cooler spring weather.

That is a dark and unusual color - a mixture of maroon and dark red. Good one Kathy.

Kathy, the many species of the Dianthus flowers have two nicknames in my country: duizendschoon en boerenpronkers. De first nickname (thousand beauties) speaks for itself, while the latter (pomp of the farmers) is given because most of the farm yards in my country have these flowers. A wonderful sight. Your fine image proofs that these nicknames are well chosen.
